Clear Braces vs. Clear Aligners: What to Know
Clear aligners may sometimes be referred to as clear braces, though it’s important to know that the two treatments are technically different. Here, we’ll look at how they both work, and which one is right for you.
Clear Braces
Clear braces refers to braces with clear brackets, meaning they’re less noticeable to the naked eye. They still have all of the other hallmarks of braces, they’re just less conspicuous. As a general rule, if you can keep up with standard hygiene, your clear braces are likely to stay clear as time goes by. However, if you don’t limit your acidic or dark-colored foods (e.g., blueberries, coffee, etc.) — or at least rinse after ingestion — then your clear braces may discolor over time.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, like Invisalign in Shawnee, KS, are custom-made trays that fit over your mouth. Virtually undetectable to the naked eye, they’re an excellent choice for eligible patients who don’t want to deal with wires and the brackets.
Clear aligners are also preferred by many people because they can be taken out when you’re eating, so the wearer doesn’t have to worry about food particles getting stuck in the brackets. They’re also generally considered more comfortable to wear, and easier to get used to.
Which One Is Right for You?
Most people will choose clear aligners if they can, though not everyone will be eligible for them. If you have a more severe alignment issue, you may only be able to use clear braces to fix it.
